Guns, Germs and Steel

We have been studying why there are civilizations that are part of the “Have so much cargo” group versus the “Have so little cargo” group.  Jared Diamond argues that it all comes down to GUNS, GERMS and STEEL.

You need to write your thoughts on the following questions.

1. According to Diamond, How does geographic luck and the shape of the continents play a role in civilizations having “Cargo” or no “Cargo”?

Provide an example of how geography affects farming and animals.

2.  According to Diamond, How does writing play a role in whether or not a civilization is part of the “Have a lot” group versus “Have so little”?

Talk about why the Conquistadors had an advantage over the Inca because of the story of writing. Please talk about why writing spread easily moving from east to west as opposed north to south
